The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged residents living near the Aflao border to resist any attempts by security personnel to confiscate their Ghana Cards.
This appeal follows reports that officers of the Ghana Immigration Service at the border have been seizing Ghana Cards from residents.
Speaking in Aflao, the NDC flagbearer encouraged residents to stand their ground and not be intimidated by such actions.
“No one has the authority to take your Ghana Card—not immigration, not the police, no one. So, do not hand over your card to anyone.
“The National Identification Authority is the only body authorized to withdraw your card. Once it has been issued, if there are doubts about your citizenship, the person must go to the National Identification Authority, obtain a certificate of withdrawal, and then come for your card. You cannot determine someone’s nationality just by looking at them on the street,” Mr. Mahama stated.
