The Director of Communications of the NPP says former President John Mahama's victory is not a surprising one because, at some point, he was being referred to as the presumptive flagbearer of the NDC.
Richard Ahiagbah said Mr Mahama's promise of reviving the economy cannot be trusted because he failed to fulfil same while he was in office.
"The former president's victory is no surprise at all. It's been a long coming. But, everything he said yesterday, in my view were simply words," he said on the JoyNews' AM Show on Tuesday.
The NDC flagbearer for the 2024 election gave his acceptance speech on Monday, May 15, after a resounding 98.9% win in the just-ended NDC primaries.
Mr Mahama promised to fix the country and give the citizenry relief from the incompetence of the Akufo-Addo administration.
According to him "the NDC will reconsider the tax exemption regime, ensuring that any exemptions benefit the Ghanaian people.
"We will further ensure that the extractive sector operates within a mutually beneficial tax environment for the stability of the exchange rate," and also indicated that there will be intentional efforts to create jobs for the youth.
But the governing NPP says they are not surprised by his promises.
According to Mr Ahiagba, the former President's track record shows that he has achieved less of his promises and only seeks to make more of those just to win the votes of citizens without the intention of fulfilling them.
Mr Mahama promised to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted on the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale.
But the NPP Director of Communications said Mr Mahama could not do much to when J.B Danquah Adu was murdered during his administration.
This, he said is an example that the former President is incapable of keeping his promises.
Mr Ahiagba, therefore, said he is unimpressed by the former president's speech.
