The Head of Marketing and Entrepreneurship Department at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to take John Mahama's running mate for granted.
Prof Ebo Hinson described the governing party's seeming position of seeing the 2020 elections as a contest only between National Democratic Congress (NDC) nominee, John Mahama and President Akufo-Addo as problematic.
"That is a problematic stance to take because politics is not just about the person standing in front. There is party machinery," he said referencing some NPP members who had publicly written off the NDC running mate's capacity to get the job done.
Speaking on PM Express Personality Edition, Prof Hinson said the ideal thing to do is to deliberate on ways to factor in all the elements into a winning ticket.
The National Democratic Congress, on July 27, outdoored Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate to flagbearer John Mahama at a ceremony in Accra.
"The Jane Naana dimension will matter because she is not just a token addition.
"She has sterling qualities but that critical issue will be how this will be translated into making her an appealing brand," he maintained.
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang's outdooring ceremony at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) saw the former Education Minister deliver her maiden speech since her nomination as running mate.
The former UCC Vice-Chancellor's performance at the event has been described by many experts as a good indication of what she brings to the table as a leading member in the party's bid to capture power in the December 7 polls.
