The Ghana Police Service has denied reports of a shooting incident and clarified that no demonstrator was injured by police at the Kumasi office of the Electoral Commission (EC).
This follows a nationwide demonstration organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which turned violent in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The clash occurred between the police and some protesters at the EC's regional office after the agitated crowd was prevented from joining NDC executives who were inside the office to present their petition to the regional EC boss as part of the "Enough Is Enough" protest.
The situation escalated, leading to the breaking of barricades and the shattering of glass doors at the office.
During the altercation, a policewoman was reportedly injured, and another individual was arrested amidst the sounds of gunfire.
But in response to these reports, the police in a statement asserted that there was no shooting incident at the EC's regional office.
They clarified that some demonstrators, who breached the agreed protocol by forcing their way into the EC compound, were restrained by the police.

"The Ghana Police Service wishes to state that there has been no shooting incident at the Kumasi office of the Electoral Commission and no demonstrator has been injured by the Police.
"However, some demonstrators who went against the agreed arrangement by forcing their way into the compound of the EC office were restrained. We would like to take this opportunity to urge the media to be circumspect in their reportage," the statement read.
