A 25-year-old woman, Ms Gueenata Yeho, is battling severe psychological trauma after surviving a brutal night attack that claimed the lives of her mother and younger sister in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
Recounting her ordeal to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms Yeho said the incident occurred on March 25, 2026, between 2300 hours and midnight while she and her family were asleep at their home.
She said they were suddenly alarmed by unusual footsteps at their entrance, prompting her mother to quietly signal danger by tapping her hand.
Ms Yeho said moments later, unidentified assailants forcibly broke into the room, poured petrol on them and launched a violent attack using cutlasses in what she described as a targeted assault.
Despite the pain and shock, she said she managed to summon courage, pushed one of the attackers and escaped from the room, leaving behind her mother and younger sister in the ensuing chaos.
Ms Yeho noted that the traumatic experience continued to haunt her, affecting her ability to sleep and eat, as she struggles to come to terms with the loss.
“I keep seeing everything that happened. I cannot sleep, and I do not feel like eating,” she said.
She added that although she frequently visited Nkwanta because of her mother, she now finds it difficult to return following the tragic incident.
“They burnt my mother and my younger sister. We have lost everything. My father is already dead, and now my mother is gone,” she lamented.
Ms Yeho appealed to the government, benevolent organisations, and philanthropists for support to enable her to continue her education, stating that she has been left with no immediate family support.
