Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have reaffirmed their unwavering support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature as the party prepares for its flagbearer contest on 31 January, 2026.
During a three-day series of constituency engagements across the region, delegates comprising executives, Members of Parliament, councils of elders and several youth groups declared their unalloyed backing for Dr Bawumia.
Their support was expressed through chants such as “No change”, “Bawumia, no challenger”, “Bawumia is the only one we know”, and “Chart no ato! Bawumia is the man”.
At meetings in Adansi Akrofuom, Bekwai, Konongo, Effiduase, Mampong, Offinso, Abuakwa and Ahodwo, constituency executives praised Dr Bawumia’s qualities of deep thinking, hard work and humility. They described him as a visionary with problem-solving ideas — the very attributes, they argued, that the NPP and the country need.
Several MPs and elders interviewed also maintained that Dr Bawumia remains the party’s strongest chance to reclaim power from the NDC in 2028.
They pointed to Ghana’s election history, noting that candidates are more likely to win the presidency at their second attempt, and argued that replacing the party’s 2024 candidate would diminish its prospects.
In response, the former Vice President expressed gratitude to the delegates for their support and urged a contest based on ideas and vision.
He stressed the need for unity within the NPP, emphasising that the 2028 campaign must be prosecuted collectively.
Dr Bawumia commenced his three-day constituency executives’ engagement in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, 10 September.
