Member of Parliament for Bolga Central, Isaac Adongo, has called on the Speaker of Parliament to direct the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, to ensure that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) enforces rigorous protocols at match venues or risk suspending football.
The Ghana Premier League has been suspended until further notice following the death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong Pooley.
He was stabbed to death during Kotoko’s Week 19 clash with Nsoatreman in Nsoatre.
The country's football governing body has come under heavy scrutiny for failing to enforce safety measures at match venues following the tragic death of the fan.
"The information we have is that this young man [Pooley] has been threatened prior to the match and that the security agency should have known that what happened to the young man could happen," Adongo said on the floor of Parliament.
"I would like to call on you [Speaker of Parliament] to direct the Minister of Sports to take this matter very seriously and that if the GFA cannot follow rigorous protocols for licensing our football stadia, we should not be playing football as a country.
"Football is a serious business and it is about life."
Meanwhile, the first team of Kotoko will resume training on Wednesday, February 19, but "will not compete in any official matches" until justice is served.
Brimah has been identified as the person responsible for Pooley’s death and is currently on the run.
