Aspiring New Patriotic Party Chairman, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, says the Party’s communicators have failed to communicate resoundingly the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

According to him, this is a rather worrying scenario as the only chance the NPP have to break the 8 is if Ghanaian voters are made aware of what the Party has managed to achieve within the 8-year tenure of President Akufo-Addo.

He noted that the voices of the NPP communicators are being drowned by those from the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress, and this is a problem he believes he can tackle head-on.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on his bid for the Party’s chairmanship position and the upcoming 2024 Presidential elections, he said, “I’ve looked at the grounds, it appears that 2024 will be something difficult because it’s like the Ghanaian electorates decide to give the two major parties 8 years. You get a 4 year term which they think is two short and then they give you another 4 years and then after 8 they say, you know.

“You know you’re the incumbent, you cannot run on the policy of change, you can only talk about going forward, moving forward. And so you need to look at your record and ask yourself are people aware of the record? You’re running on your record, you know, you’re talking about continuity; are people aware of that record?

“That brings into sharp focus the whole idea of party communicators. And as far as I am concerned, I think that they’re not doing a good job, exactly, the message, what we have achieved, the achievements so far. And you know if you hear our opponents say for example, that you’ve borrowed a lot, borrowed but we’ve not seen one thing that you’ve done with it, that is obviously not true.”

As the NPP gears up for its national executive elections, the National Chairmanship portfolio has become a keenly contested one as incumbent Freddie Blay bows out after serving two terms.

This position will see heavy weights in the NPP such as Prof Ameyaw Akumfi, Asamoah Boateng, Stephen Ntim, and former Attorney General, Ayikoi Otoo battling it out.
