General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua says the party has a unique opportunity to be firm and uncompromising in enforcing rules governing the conduct of its members by hauling some erring members before its disciplinary committee.
Presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, a member of the Alan Kyeremanten campaign, Hopeson Adorye, and three others are expected to respond to allegations of misconduct leveled against them.
They face suspension or expulsion from the party if found guilty.
Speaking on JoyNews, Justin Kodua stated that the party will be firm in dealing with the issues before them.
“That the party is governed by rules and regulations and that’s why everywhere I go I carry the party constitution with me. And nobody is above the party constitution. We’re all in NPP because of this constitution, and therefore as implementers of the provisions in the constitution we should be seen to be fair, very neutral, unbiased and also take decisions that will be in the supreme interest of the party,” he said.
He noted that the pockets of electoral irregularities that occurred over the weekend during the party’s super delegates’ conference while regrettable, will be addressed accordingly to serve as a deterrence in the upcoming November 4 polls.
“And for instance, we can’t have it 100%. So far as elections in Ghana and everywhere is concerned, there will always be isolated cases of people trying to flout the rules, people trying to engage in certain acts which are criminal in its nature.
“Certain things that happened, there were some comments, some altercations, some issues that happened which we saw on social media, and also from various video evidence that we got which the party was very proactive to issue a statement to that effect, and to also refer to those personalities who were captured in the video to the disciplinary committee,” he said.
He added that, “The election committee had reps in all the 17 polling centres and their reps are supposed to send the reports to the elections committee so whichever issues that came up during the process will be brought to the elections committee, the election committee will analyse it and bring it to the national party. Where there has to be instigation of disciplinary actions to some people or personalities the party will do so without fear or favour.”
He noted that no erring member, be it a flagbearer or common floor member will be treated with kids’ glove, as none of them are above the party’s rules and regulations.
“So far as you’re a member of this party, you’re supposed to work within the remit of this constitution,” he said.
