Ghana’s sprinter, Joseph Paul Amoah, insists that the athletes are not affected by the per diems owed to them ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.
The government has yet to settle outstanding entitlements for the athletes following their impressive performances in recent championships, including the 2023 African Games, African Athletics Championships, and World Athletics Relays.
With the Olympic Games officially beginning on Friday, July 26, Paul, who is part of Ghana’s men’s relay team, said that the group remains unfazed by the issue.
However, he added that it "is only fair" for authorities to fulfill their commitments.
"Intrinsically, we are highly motivated. This is what we want to do, and we are happy doing it,” Joe Paul told JoySports on the Gold Chase show.
“However, it is only fair that the other part is being taken care of - promises or whatever it is that needs to be honored.”
“We are not really keeping it in our minds. It is nice to be motivated, but it is fair and right to do it when you have to do it."
Ghana's 21-man delegation includes eight athletes which features the 4x100m relay team in track and field, Joselle Mensah and Harry Stacey in Swimming, and Rose Yeboah in the high jump event.
The global tournament runs from July 6 to August 11.
