Parliament says it will vet the Deputy Health Minister nominee, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye on Wednesday April 15, 2020.
Clerk of Parliament’s Appointment Committee in an announcement to the pubic said “pursuant to Order 172 (3) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, the general public is hereby notified that Bernard Okoe Boye, Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku has been nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Deputy Minister-designate for Health.
“Consequently, the Appointments Committee of Parliament has scheduled to hold a Public Hearing to consider his nomination on Wednesday, 15th April, 2020 at 10:00 am.”
President Akufo-Addo named Dr. Okoe-Boye as his Deputy Health Minister-designate last Monday.
His predecessor, Alexander Abban, has now been appointed the Deputy Communications Minister, replacing Vincent Sowah Odotei who is also the MP for La Dadekotopon.
The President’s decision which has been welcomed by many comes as the country strives to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Ghana has recorded 313 cases of Covid-19 which is caused by coronavirus. Six persons have died from the disease while three have recovered.
Profile of Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye
The 38-year-old medical doctor was elected into Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016 after he defeated the incumbent, Benita Okiti-Duah of the then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Prior to his entry into Parliament, Oko-Boye was a medical officer at the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) Hospital in Accra.
Bernard Okoe-Boye is a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he read medicine.
He is currently the Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the nation’s largest medical facility.
Oko-Boye is an old student of the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec-Legon) where he completed his secondary school education in the year 2000.
