Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is urging the Agricultural Development Bank to pay back an amount wrongfully debited to the University of Cape Coast's (UCC) account.
The incident is said to have happened some 10 years ago involving an amount of ¢10,000.
Speaking before the Committee, Director of Finance of UCC, Elizabeth Obese explained that numerous attempts to get the bank to rectify the anomaly has proven futile.
She was responding to questions from the Member of Parliament for Komenda, Samuel Atta Mills during the PAC's sitting on September 3, 2020.
Elizabeth Obese told the Committee; “We have written a series of letters and we wrote the last one just last week but we still have not had any feedback.”
She further explained that the school further refrained from engaging in transactions with the bank’s account as a way of registering its displeasure, a move which has equally yielded no results.
“The first step we took was to stop operating that account just to alert them that we are not satisfied with the services that they are offering us. But after all this, they didn’t credit it.
The committee urged the bank to take the necessary steps to credit the accounts of the schools.
“So I believe we have to take a firm decision after we have appeared before your honourable committee," she said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of PAC James Avedzi questioned why a 10kv generator bought by the university cost ¢73,000.
He asked the registrar to double-check and return to furnish the committee with the accurate figures regarding the expenditure.
