The police say they have made strides in the high-profile Spintex robbery case, car theft and human trafficking cases.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID), Ghana Police Service, disclosed this in Accra.

On the Spintex, armed robbers broke into the home of a 35-year-old man at dawn and stole valuables, including jewellery, laptops, wristwatches, handbags, clothes and cash amounting to $5000 and GH¢21,645.00.

Addressing the Media, she said following Police intelligence-led operations, Prince Opoku alias Agyenkwa and a Nigerian, Jennifer Nweke, were arrested on September 18, 2025, at Adenta, with stolen items, including jewellery, mobile phones and large sums of cash were recovered.

The Director General of CID said the suspects later led investigators to a place called Agbogba, where additional items belonging to the complainant were retrieved.

She said, “During interrogations, suspect Opoku admitted his involvement in the crime and mentioned one Mensah alias 'Taller', as his accomplice and leader of the operation.”

“The suspect later led the Police to Dansoman, where a bag containing one Filipino passport and two ladies’ purses containing business and ATM cards were retrieved,” COP Donkor revealed.

On the recovery of stolen vehicles, Madam Donkor said the CID had intensified efforts to address the growing challenge of transnational vehicle crime.

She said vehicle theft not only causes financial loss to victims but also tarnishes Ghana’s reputation and fuels other organised criminal activities.

COP Donkor said, “The CID has been working with national stakeholders, including the Ghana Port and Harbour Authority, as well as international partners and embassies of affected countries, to retrieve the stolen vehicles.

She said the Police collaborated with the Netherlands’ Embassy to recover stolen vehicles trafficked into Ghana.

“Between September 15 and 17, 2025, the collaboration has led to the successful recovery of 10 vehicles, in some parts of Accra, including Cantamanto, Nimah and Cantoments,” the CID boss stated.

Highlighting the fight against human trafficking, COP Donkor said the Department remains unrelenting in its fight against human trafficking.

She said, “Between September 5 and 19, 2025, Police operators have rescued 60 trafficked victims, including 41 foreigners rescued from Ghana and 19 Ghanaians rescued abroad.

She said all rescued persons had since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for reintegration with their families.
