The Ghana Police Service is on a manhunt for a motor rider for allegedly transporting arms and ammunition to Kpandai in the Northern Region.
The motor rider is alleged to have dropped the arms and ammunition when he saw he was being trailed by the police.
When the abandoned packages were opened, one A-Tac semi-automatic shotgun, two Jojef semi-automatic shotguns, and two boxes of cartridges containing a total of 500 BB cartridges were found, a police brief said on Friday.
It said on January 27, at approximately 1530 hours, the Ghana Police Service received intelligence about an unknown person on a blue Royal motorcycle allegedly transporting arms and ammunition to Kpandai.
It said a surveillance team was immediately deployed to monitor the motorcycle's movement from the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange toward the Agbogbloshie Bus Terminal.
On realising he was being trailed by police, the suspect reportedly dropped several parcels wrapped in black nylon bags and fled the scene.
Despite a coordinated search, police were unable to apprehend the motorcycle rider.
However, investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect.
