Former President, John Mahama has voiced his dissatisfaction with the lack of parliamentary representation for the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL).
He urged residents to hold the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) accountable for the 2020 elections, during which SALL constituents in the Guan constituency were left without representation due to boundary and constituency issues.
Addressing a rally on the final day of his regional tour, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer encouraged voters to "electorally punish" the NPP for this oversight.
“Indeed, SALL, you have to show the NPP government that you are not happy with how they've treated you over the last four years. And so you are not going to give NDC 95%. You are going to give NDC 100%.
“Nobody in the Guan constituency should give his vote to the NPP so that they will know that the way they have treated us, we are not happy,” he said.
Mr Mahama also shared plans to revitalise the agricultural sector by creating agro-processing zones across the region to stimulate farming and generate jobs.
“We're going to create an agro-industrial zone. We're going to encourage the private sector with support from the government to set up a factory here to buy all the ginger that you produce and process it for the market.
“We'll set up a factory here, another one, to buy and produce and process all the rice that you produce in this district. And we're going to set up a factory here to buy and process all the cassava that you are producing here,” the NDC flagbearer said.
He promised that the completion of the Eastern Corridor Road would be a priority for a future NDC administration, highlighting that sections of the road in the Oti region are still in poor condition, creating difficulties for residents and local economic activities.
Mr Mahama also pledged that the next NDC government would invest in infrastructure for the Oti region, including the construction of a public university, a regional hospital, and a sports stadium, to elevate the region’s status as a recently established administrative area.
