President John Mahama has, on behalf of Ghanaians, expressed gratitude to the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) for its decision to reduce lorry fares by 15 per cent.
The GPRTU’s decision to reduce lorry fares by 15 per cent follows the reduction in fuel prices due to the appreciation of the cedi over the past five months against major international currencies, especially the United States dollar.
“Let me take the opportunity to commend those of you who have responded to the cedi's appreciation by reducing prices of your products and services and thereby passing some of the relief from the hardship to Ghanaians,” the President stated in his remarks at the 2025 Ghana CEOs Summit in Accra.
“And so, Orca and all of you, thank you very much. GPRTU, thank you very much. And so, for those of you who have not responded yet, please pass on some of the city appreciation to Ghanaians.”
In a significant move aimed at supporting Ghanaian consumers, Orca Deco Ghana announced a substantial 15 per cent reduction across its entire range of products, set to take effect on Monday, May 12.
The President said the time had come for them to lift the gloom, to restore confidence, and to build again.
He reiterated that Ghana was open for business again.
“Let this summit mark the beginning of a new compact between the public and private sectors, a compact of mutual accountability, shared risks, and shared rewards,” President Mahama said.
“Together we can lead Ghana’s economic reset and in doing so lay the foundations for a more prosperous, inclusive, and secure future for our people.”
