The Minister Designate for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he is committed to ensuring the development of all sports in the country and not just football
The Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency acknowledges the importance of the Black Stars and football to the people of Ghana but believes other sporting disciplines also need to be given the needed attention.
In recent times, there have complaints of the Sports Ministry paying special attention to the needs of the Black Stars while neglecting other national teams under the previous government.
However, Adams, hopes to do better than what has been done in the past.
"Sports is not football; sports is not Black Stars. Sports go beyond football and football should go beyond Black Stars. But, of course, Black Stars is the ultimate. We want to see our Black Stars back again," he said in an interview on GHOne TV.
"Black Stars have their management, Black Queens have their management, Badminton have their management…As a sports minister, you are responsible for all of these (federations); you are not only responsible for the Black Stars.
"But whatever leadership you must offer to the other federations and associations to make sure that each and everyone of them succeeds, I will do so."
Having detailed his commitment to other sporting disciplines, Adams also pledged not to neglect the senior national team.
"I know that football is the nation's love and so you don't reduce your attention on what the nation loves but you develop all other ones because everything must be developed holistically," he added.
The 49-year-old is expected to go through vetting before replacing Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021 under the previous administration led by Nana Akufo-Addo.
