The Bono East Regional Police Command have arrested five suspected criminals, including a woman in the Kintampo Municipality, for allegedly dealing in narcotics and illegal ammunition.

Speaking at a Media briefing in Techiman on security issues in Bono East, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Moses Asabagna Atibillaon revealed that the suspects were found with 287 wrapped substances suspected to be Indian hemp [Weed].

“The District Commander went there with two men and got these people arrested. At Dawadawa No 2, we got four suspects who deal in narcotics."

DCOP Atibillaon further indicated that the Police also gathered intelligence that there was another gang in Techiman who are allegedly dealing in illegal ammunitions in the region and over 120 ammunitions were retrieved from them.

“We had information that some two suspects were dealing in ammunitions in Techiman, so we made some personnel trail them and when they got there, they [the criminals] abandoned the bag that they were carrying and run away.

“When they ran away, all that we did was to go for the bag and when we searched, we saw that there were about 76 pieces of nine millimeters of live ammunitions, 50 pieces of 380 automatic, G95 GR small ammunition and 21 pieces of BB cartridges that were in that bag,” he said.

To help combat crime in the region, DCOP Atibillaon urged the public to provide the Police with relevant information that can help curb crime and protect lives as well as properties.

“Policing is a shared responsibility because you [the public] need to give us information and we have to get information from you so that we can curb crime.”

He, assured the public that “we are not going to sleep, we are going to be on the criminals until the criminals stop, we will also not sleep.”
