The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice has advised the youths of Abesim not to be in a hurry to get rich in life but to be patient and diligently go through life’s process to be successful.
Alfred Tuah Yeboah said any attempt to jump ahead of themselves in life could land them in troubles they may never come out of.
He advised the youth at the fifth annual independence football gala at Abesim in the Sunyani East Municipality of the Bono Region.
The Abesim community in recent times has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, including gruesome murder cases.
The very recent one that shocked Ghanaians and the world was when 28-year-old Richard Appiah was arrested for allegedly killing three persons, including his brother, and keeping one of the body parts in a fridge.
The suspect in that dreadful murder is still in court in Accra for the committal trial, but residents remain in shock over the incident.
“That young man, last year, took part in this cup (2021 Abesim independence football gala competition). I was here to watch that game where he scored from a penalty kick,” the minister recounted.
With such a prospect, he said they never thought Richard, also known as 'Fire', could engage in the alleged criminal activity, but unfortunately, he is on the other side of the law.
“I have been advising the youth, not only in Abesim, that if you are a young man or lady, you don’t have to rush into certain things. If you want to get everything within a short possible time, you may get yourself involved in crimes,” Tuah Yeboah said.
However, he said most young people are not interested in knowing how some people work hard to achieve the success they enjoy.
“I practised (as a lawyer) for about 20 years before becoming a deputy attorney general, and some young people might think I just started as a young man,” he said.
“Whatever thing that we are doing, we make sure that we take our time, go through the process, and at the end of the day, the result will show. There is no shortcut in life,” the deputy minister said.
Alfred Tuah Yeboah also assured the people that, although the trial of the case may seem delayed, justice would be served in the long run.
He argued that murder cases are serious, requiring meticulous investigations to ensure that there would be a clear conscience when judgments are made.
The convener of Abesim youth and organiser of the annual competition, Michael Opoku Boateng, said this year’s gala, dubbed “Abesim not for crime” is among the series of measures they are rolling to redeem the dented image of Abesim.
He said they would also be going to the schools within the community to engage students in their behaviour.
Mr Opoku Boateng admitted it’s unfortunate one of their own allegedly committed the crime, and they will continue to work hard to change the negative narration about Abesim.
He appealed to indigenes and friends of Abisem, both home and abroad, to come on board and support them.
The four team gala, graced by some members of the Abesim Traditional council, city authorities, political party members, among others, had Abesim Extension winning the ultimate after beating Abesim FC by a goal to nil.
Former coach of the Black Stars, James Kwasi Appiah, joined Alfred Tuah Yeboah to present the glittering trophy to the winner.
