The Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun has commended the representatives of the school for bagging the fourth position in the second edition of Joy Prime’s Big Chef Tertiary culinary combat.
His commendation came when the Student Representatives of the Hospitality Department of the University who participated in the just ended Big Chef Tertiary contest called on the Vice Chancellor and presented their award to him.
The students emerged as third runner-up out of nine competing Technical Universities across the country. They earned a table fridge and microwave oven from Victor Electronics, 2,000 cedis cash prize sponsored by Lancaster Hotel, certificate of participation plus products from sponsors.
Led by the Head of Department of Hospitality Management, Coaches and staff, the team presented their awards to the Vice Chancellor.
Being a recognised platform, Rev. Prof. Eshun, congratulated the students on their achievements, saying that it helps in projecting TTU as true centre of excellence.
He also challenged them and the faculty to prepare adequately to perform much better in subsequent competitions.
“Strive hard to compete with other institutions because TTU must have a voice. You were fourth this year and next year you can be first. So prepare enough," he noted.

The Head of Department of Hospitality Management, Dr Adelaide Spio-Kwofie mentioned that such competitions benefit both students and the University in many ways.
"In terms of the students, it is relevant because people see them and it shows how skillful they are. It gives them the opportunity and confidence. It also serves as exposure for the school; it's a form of advertisement for the University. It tells the world about what we are capable of doing as a University," she said.

Dr. Spio-Kwofie, in response to the Vice Chancellor's call, promised to mobilize and strategize effectively for subsequent competitions to ensure victory.
"My emphasis is on Big Chef Tertiary. I believe it relies more on the voting side, so going forward, we will engage with the students. Last year, because we were on campus, we went from classroom to classroom. This year, we will form committees and task the class reps. At least Gh¢1 will be set aside every day, so before the programme starts, we will already be ahead," she promised.
Also present were the Registrar of TTU, Dr. Moses McLean Abnory and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Evan. Prof. Joe Turkson.
