A lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr Ekpor Anyimah-Ackah, has rendered an apology to President John Dramani Mahama and the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Prof Nana Ama Klutse, over comments he made during a televised discussion on illegal mining.
Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile over the weekend, Dr Ekpor criticised the EPA boss and the president for their use of the term “dechemicalisation” in reference to efforts to restore polluted water bodies.

He argued that the government had not done enough to address the galamsey menace, questioning the practicality of the term, which was first introduced by Prof Klutse as part of a possible water remediation strategy.
However, appearing on The Probe on Sunday night, Dr Ekpor expressed regret over his earlier outburst. "I could have discussed the issues without taking it to the extreme," he said.
He apologised to both Mr Mahama and Prof Klutse for his harsh remarks, acknowledging that his comments were inappropriate.
"I want to apologise to the President of the Republic, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. I want to also salute his able minister (The Lands and Natural Resources Minister). I also want to salute Prof here and to say that she is a beloved Professor and we have respect for the work she is doing," Dr. Ekpor added.
