The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana has announced the commissioning of a Toyota Ghana School of Engineering Sciences training centre.
According to Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the centre was opened in October 2023, and aims to provide students with hands-on training and experience in the field of engineering.
“This facility exemplifies the synergy between academia and industry and is a significant contribution and investment to the University’s engineering programme,” she said.
Speaking during the first in a 15-part series of congregation ceremonies, Prof Amfo said that Toyota Ghana is committed to providing $2 million worth of equipment over 10 years to support the training of students.

Prof Amfo added that Toyota Ghana has donated a 33-seater Toyota Coaster bus to the university as part of its commitment to the partnership.
In addition to the partnership with Toyota Ghana, the university has also formed significant collaborations with other leading companies in Ghana to support the university's growth.
“These include Tobinco Pharmaceuticals’ funding for the UG Medical School Clinic at a cost of GHȼ20,000,000; and DHL’s sponsorship for the refurbishment of the fountains in front of the Balme Library and at the University’s main entrance,” Prof Amfo stated.
The University, therefore extended its deepest gratitude to all their industry partners, for their invaluable support and commitment to the development of the school.
This year, the University of Ghana will have a total of 15 graduation ceremonies, and a total of 15,549 students who have successfully completed their programmes of study will be graduating.
This number includes 120 PhDs, 3,389 at the Masters’ level, 10,504 at the undergraduate level and 611 at the non-degree level.
