Some constituency executives in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region have endorsed the candidature of Mr. Evans Sre-Onyame, an educationist and HR practitioner, who is vying for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
Explaining their reasons for openly supporting Sre-Onyame, the constituency executives stated that the district is lagging behind in development and, therefore, needs a charismatic leader who can leverage available resources and channel them toward the district’s development.
According to them, their preferred candidate has, over the years, demonstrated commitment and loyalty to the party, particularly during challenging times when some party members betrayed the NDC and aligned with the NPP, resulting in the loss of the parliamentary seat to the NPP in 2016.
"During the struggle to regain the seat, as the Youth Organizer for the constituency, he single-handedly financed a series of youth-oriented activities to re-energize the base of the party. It is of no surprise therefore that the seat was regained by the NDC in the 2020 elections," they stated.
Speaking to the media after the Eastern Regional Branch of the party selected Evans Srenyame as one of the top three candidates for consideration for the position of District Chief Executive for the area, the constituency organizer, James Djornorbua, stated that the district needs a person whose loyalty to the party over the years cannot be questioned.
"Evans Srenyame is a true party man whose loyalty is unquestionable. He is not the type who flirts with our political opponents to satisfy his interests at the expense of the party".
"Since he joined the party more than twenty years ago, he has been resolute, supported the party with logistics and offered financial support too," he stated.
The constituency women's organizer, Madam Comfort Darley Huago on her part believes, Evans Srenyame has the right leadership acumen to bring all factions in the party together.
"We know him to be a unifier, he is someone who is not vindictive, he is the type I believe can bring all of us together to achieve the common purpose of developing our communities.", she noted.
Samuel Agyekum who is the constituency Youth Organizer wondered why the party would look beyond Evans Srenyame who happens to be a former constituency youth organizer in that same constituency for another candidate.
"I personally believe and trust that Srenyame can lead us. I was the Deputy Youth Organizer during his days as the Constituency Youth Organizer. He has since been a mentor for the youth wing of the party. He is youthful and energetic and above all, he is well educated and equally understands the dynamics of the district not just because he a native but because he had worked as a Teacher and an Officer at the Education Office in the District.
"When he was the youth organizer, he distinguished himself as someone who can be trusted, he didn't antagonize anybody nor did he ever engage in a scuffle with anybody. He is peace-loving, humble and a friend to all", he said
The DCE aspirant has been a constituency youth organizer who identified and nurtured young individuals to take up active roles in the advancement of the course of the NDC in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency
He featured actively in the team that won back the parliamentary seat for the NDC during the 2020 elections, having lost to the NPP in 2016.
Mr. Srenyame holds an MPhil in Educational Administration and Management from the University of Education, Winneba, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Psychology from the University of Ghana, and a Teacher's Certificate 'A' from the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong.
