Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has denied brandishing a gun at the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

His response comes after host of Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Andy Dosty, questioned him on how pulling a gun at the VGMAs has affected the love admirers have for him.

“Although the media can use any word they want, I refuse to accept that because I did not brandish any gun,” he told Andy Dosty.

Stonebwoy stated that the meaning of brandishing in the dictionary goes contrary to what happened on the stage at the VGMAs.

“Look it up in the dictionary, it means raising or lifting a gun,” he added.

Stonebwoy is alleged to have pulled out a gun on stage at the VGMA  when a brawl erupted between his team and Shatta Wale’s. 

Pandemonium broke out shortly after Stonebwoy was announced the winner of ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’. That was the fifth consecutive time Stonebwoy was winning the award. 

Just when Stonebwoy, was about to deliver his acceptance speech for the award, Shatta Wale started walking towards him on stage.

It’s unclear what Shatta Wale’s intentions were considering the fact that the two, over the years, have hardly seen eye to eye.

Shatta Wale, later posted on Twitter he was walking up to the stage to celebrate with Stonebwoy.

Just as he approached the stage, blows started flying between Stonebwoy’s entourage and Shatta Wale’s team. Police and security personnel could be seen rushing to the stage to prevent the brawl from escalating.

The fight disrupted the Awards for almost 30 minutes. Some guests, including actress Jackie Appiah, rushed out of the venue.

The two were later arrested and sent to the Accra Regional Police Command for interrogation.

The VGMA Board also stripped the two artistes off their awards and banned them indefinitely from partaking in the award scheme.

Speaking in the interview, the ‘Shuga’ hitmaker said: “I do not want to speak much about it because it's still in court and being dealt with nicely.”

Stonebwoy, however, believes it is unfortunate how much the incident at the VGMA has affected the industry and the country.

But he is certain the country can move past it with the lessons learnt, for a better future.

“The atmosphere is much peaceful than before. We are all brothers happy about each other’s achievements and jamming to each other’s songs regardless of the differences,” he added.
