The Ghana Prisons Service has dismissed allegations of maltreatment levelled against them by a Nigerian inmate serving 130 years at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison.
A statement from the Central Regional Command said the inmate, Emmanuel Emeka accused the prison of unfair treatment.
However, the Service said, “it is necessary for the general public to note that Ghana’s prison system, like the wider Ghanaian society, does not discriminate against foreigners. All prisoners, irrespective of nationality, have the right to appeal.”
The statement also said the convict who is serving different sentences for armed robbery has made similar allegations before “with the help of a smuggled mobile device in his possession.”
“The mobile phone was swiftly retrieved and disciplinary actions were instituted against him,” the statement read.
