Abednego Tetteh, 30, joined Hearts of Oak this summer from Trau FC in the 2nd tier of the Indian League.

He left the shores of Ghana after his 2016/17 season with Bechem United to further his career with Al-Hilal Omdurman in the Sudanese football league.

Data provided indicates, he never made a league appearance for his side but contributed 2 goals in 7 CAF Champions League appearances for the club. He also produced 1 goal in 3 appearances for Al-Hilal Obeid in the CAF Confederation cup.

Goals win games and winning games win you titles. This might just mean, the quality and output of strikers is the most important component of any team with league triumph ambitions.

Tetteh returns to the league where it once ticked for him and will be in line to help Hearts win their first league title in 10 years.

The Golden boot, Hearts' prized possession

Since the turn of the century in 2000, Accra Hearts of Oak have won the Ghana Premier League on six different occasions and alongside that triumph, seven of their players have won the golden boot seven different times within that period.

From 2000 to 2017, the top goal scorers of the Ghana Premier League have produced a total of 280 goals, with Ishmael Addo producing 7.85% of those goals in 2001 for Accra Hearts of Oak.

Within the period under review, Hearts with seven, have the most representation of players to win the golden boot and in 2003, the club set a record of being the only team to have two players share the golden boot in Premier League history. Charles Taylor and Dong Bortey together, contributed 50% of Hearts of Oak's 72 goals in their run to the Premier League title that season.

The lowest number of goals a player had to produce to win the golden boot came in the 2003 and 2009/10 seasons. In 2003, Shaibu Yakubu and Kwadwo Poku of Goldfields and King Faisal had an equal tally of 13 goals while the end of the 2009/10 season witnessed Samuel Affum of Hearts of Oak and Bismark Idun of Kessben also rack up 13 goals to top the goal king chart.

In the last 20 years, Accra Hearts of Oak have dominated the goal king chart and with Abednego Tetteh returning to the Ghana Premier League with Accra Hearts of Oak, he looks fit to prolong the Phobia dominance.

The case for Tetteh

The total number of goals produced by Premier League top scorers from 2000 to 2017 is 280 and the average number of goals for an individual player is 16.

In Tetteh's 2016/17 season with Bechem United, he contributed 16 of Bechem United's 30 goals. He single-handedly contributed to 33.3% of the club's goals which helped them finish 10th.

With the striker set to receive better service at Hearts of Oak playing along the likes of Michelle Sarpong, Patrick Razak and Emmanuel Nettey, goals certainly will come by.

Also, with Hearts of Oak's knack for winning the league's golden boot, Tetteh has made bedfellows with a club whose history will harness his 16 goals for Bechem.

Tetteh now has the experience and wits of continental football from the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, an additional card in his locker.

Scoring 16 goals this season, should not be a problem for the 30-year-old this season.
