Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has laid down the marker by guiding the Porcupines to their fourth trophy under his tutelage, clinching the Champion of Champions trophy following a 1-0 win over Bibiani GoldStars at the Dun’s Park on Sunday - on a day the club is celebrating it's 90th anniversary.
Zito, who joined Kotoko on a two-year deal at the end of last season after his interim period as a replacement for Prosper Narteh Ogum, went on to clinch the MTN FA Cup.
The former Dreams FC gaffer subsequently added the President’s Cup and Toyota Cup - four trophies overall in 77 days.
Kotoko endured a torrid GHALCA Top Four competition but bounced back with the triumph over the league champions to begin the season on a good note.
“I told them [Kotoko players], look, I trust you, I know what you can do," Zito said.
"So, we can go and then win the Champion of Champions here. And there’s one thing I kept on saying, you can’t beat Zito twice. For that, I am sure.”
The Ghana Premier League kicks off on the weekend of September 12, as Kotoko begin their season with an away trip to Berekum Chelsea.
Zito's side will also face Nigeria’s Kwara United on September 19–21 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
Meanwhile, GoldStars take on Bechem United in the league and prepare for their first Champions League encounter, slated for September 19–21, against Algeria’s JS Kabylie.
