A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, has described the party's post-election state as “brutally injured,” warning that recovery will require time, patience, and deep introspection.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront on Wednesday, July 2, Mr Addai-Nimoh stated that the humiliating defeat suffered by the party in the 2024 general elections has left it in a precarious condition, both structurally and emotionally.
“Our party, the New Patriotic Party, now, is brutally injured. So once you are injured and it's a brutal one, the recovery takes time, and it takes a lot of things to fully recover,” he said.
He cited the NPP’s poor showing in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, pointing out that while the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2016 loss was significant, it was not as severe as what the NPP experienced in 2024.
“In 2016, the NDC secured 106 parliamentary seats across all ten regions. But in our case, we managed only 88 seats, and our presidential candidate polled 41.7%.”
He further raised concerns about the party’s geographical performance, stressing that the NPP now holds no parliamentary seats in three of the original 10 regions—Upper West, Upper East, and Volta, and has still not secured any seats in four of the current regions.
“For a party that seeks to return to power, this must be of great concern as we look forward to 2028. It cannot be business as usual,” he cautioned.
Mr Addai-Nimoh called for calm and level-headedness as the party embarks on what he called a “recovery effort,” stressing the need for dialogue and unity if the NPP is to bounce back in future elections.
