As the sun rises today, Saturday, December 20, 2025, the nation’s attention shifts to a high-stakes televised post-mortem of a year defined by legal firestorms, economic "resets", and a decisive crackdown on environmental destruction.
At 7:00 AM today, Joy Prime aired a special edition of Prime Insight hosted by Blessed Sogah, which brought together a diverse panel of political strategists and legal minds to dissect the 'State of the Nation' as 2025 draws to a close.

The two-hour live broadcast (7 AM – 9 AM) promised a no-holds-barred reflection on the year’s biggest headlines, from the courtroom battles over the Kpandai parliamentary seat to the government’s controversial economic policies.
The discussion featured a tactical mix of voices from across the political and civil spectrum:
- Rashid Tanko Computer: Deputy Director of Elections, NDC.
- Awal Mohammed: Communications Team Member, NPP.
- Janet Nabla: Founder, People’s National Party (PNP).
- Wayoe Ghanamannti, Esq.: Former CPP Running Mate and legal practitioner.
- Ivan Kyei Innocent: Youth Activist and vocal critic of systemic corruption.
The Agenda: A Year of Reckoning
1. The 'Iron Fist' on Galamsey: L.I. 2462 Revoked
The segment on illegal mining is expected to be the most heated, following the landmark maturation of the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Revocation Instrument, 2025, on December 10. The panel will debate the impact of the total ban on mining in forest reserves—a move that successfully dismantled the legal loopholes of L.I. 2462.
25-year jail terms will likely be the central theme of the discussion, which will be the "legal teeth" now backing forest protection. With the revocation of L.I. 2462, any industrial or artisanal mining within these zones is now strictly illegal, exposing offenders to the full rigours of Act 995.
2. Electoral Turmoil: The Kpandai Standoff
Fresh off the Supreme Court’s December 16 decision to suspend the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, the panel will tackle the jurisdictional clash between the High Court and the apex court. The NDC’s Rashid Tanko Computer is expected to argue against the suspension, which he previously described as confusing Ghanaians, while Awal Mohammed will likely defend the ruling as a victory for the rule of law regarding the 21-day filing window.
3. The Economic 'Reset' and Tax Relief
Finally, the guests will analyse the 2026 Budget, themed "Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation". The discussion will likely focus on the massive tax removals set for January, including the abolition of the 1% E-Levy, the 10% Betting Tax, and the Emissions Levy. This comes as 2025 saw a remarkable recovery with 6.3% GDP growth and inflation plummeting to 8.0% by October.
As the panel prepare to take their seats, the question remains: has 2025 been a year of genuine recovery, or just a temporary stabilisation? Tune in to Joy Prime this morning to find out.
