The accident occurred on Monday, September 15, 2025, when a DAF truck loaded with 700 bags of rice (registration number AW 9548-13) collided with a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle (registration number GC 9728-21).
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), its Rescue Team from the Central Regional Headquarters was dispatched to the scene at 2:45 p.m. and arrived 14 minutes later. On arrival, the team found several victims trapped in the mangled vehicle.

Fire officers managed to extricate five victims, four of whom were later pronounced dead at the hospital. One critically injured victim is currently receiving treatment. Prior to the GNFS's arrival, nine other passengers had already been rescued and rushed to the hospital by bystanders and other emergency responders.
In total, 17 casualties have been recorded: five confirmed dead and 12 injured. The driver and mate of the DAF truck escaped the crash unhurt. Rescue operations are still ongoing to free one person who remains trapped in the wreckage.
