Five persons are reported to have died in a galamsey pit at Namgruma in the North East Region of Ghana.
This was after the pit they were engaging their activities in, collapsed on them.
According to reports, they were allegedly prospecting for gold in an abandoned pit on Monday, September 12 when the accident occurred.
It is also reported that they were trying to pump water out of the pit at the time of the incident.
The North East Regional NADMO Directorate confirmed the incident to the media on Wednesday.
He said the bodies have since been released to the families for burial.
