The Western Central Regional Police Command has brought seven individuals before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi.
The accused, Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto, also known as Agorogo, Kwadwo George, also known as Sergio, and Emmanuel Van, also known as Atta, are facing charges of conspiracy to commit crime and engaging in mining activities without a licence.
The accused have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to reappear before the court on April 17.
On Monday, April 1, the Western Central Regional Police Command arrested 11 individuals: four Chinese nationals and seven Ghanaians, for illegal mining activities along the banks of the Bonsa River and at a site near Wassa Agona.
In a related development, two additional Chinese nationals, Huan Ciongjian (38) and Ling Yong (56), were apprehended for engaging in illegal mining along the Bonsa River.
All foreign nationals arrested have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service.
