Security operatives believed to be National security details on Monday intercepted a truckload of processed rosewoods concealed in a container.The DAF truck with registration number AS 2377 – Y, was impounded at Busunu in the Sananah Region en route to Accra through the Northern Region capital, Tamale.The rosewoods are believed to have been loaded from the yards of Brivywell Sawmill company at Yipala in the West Gonja district of the Savannah Region.
JoyNews broke the news of Brivywell company and its sawmill activities some months ago.This led to the sawmill being banned by the Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) from operating to allow a six-member committee of enquiry go into the matter.But while the committee report is yet to be made public, the company is back in business and illegally carting rosewoods.Read also: We are ready to provide Rosewood Corruption Evidence to SP – EIA
Joy News' sources spotted a truck at the yards of the company at Yipala loading the banned wood. To disguise it from the security agencies, the company later added some bags of charcoal as if it was a truckload of charcoal.
The truck escaped from its base in Yipala, then entered Damongo township and moved to the next community called Soalepe trying to enter Busunu where it was arrested and later handed over to the Police.The REGSEC is said to be preparing to address the media on the matter on Wednesday.
