The Sports Minister has announced that a stimulus package will be launched to cushion the financial burden on athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Isaac Kwame Asiamah told a press briefing Wednesday, that the package will be named 'Youth in Elite Sports for Ghana'.
"The pandemic has caused immeasurable damage to the preparation of Ghanaian athletes who were preparing the various qualifiers for the Olympic Games with untold economic hardships," he lamented.
"As a way to mitigate their plight, a collaboration between the Youth Employment Agency, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee, the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), the Ghana Football Association, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the institution of a stimulus package known as 'Youth in Elite Sports for Ghana' will be launched soon.
"The programme is to provide the needed mitigation stimulus to abate the economic impact on their preparation," he stated.
Sports was not factored into the stimulus package set for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
The Youth in Elite Sports for Ghana is created to fill that gap.
