The Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, says the party is targeting a first-round presidential victory in the December 2020 election polls.
In an address to the Chiefs and people of Berekum East and West Constituencies at Domfete in the Bono Region, the President implored electorates to not only vote for him but to avoid a "skirt and blouse" parliament by voting for the party's parliamentary candidates.
This, according to him, will make it easier to push the NPP's agenda through parliament for implementation.
“I need people I can work with when I am elected for the second term.
Since I cannot do it alone, there is the need for you to ensure that I have a strong majority to assist me in Parliament,” he said.
Akufo-Addo also mentioned that the people of Ghana are witnesses to his party's competence, adding that his administration had been able to fulfill most of its 2016 campaign promises.
Speaking to the topic of violence during elections, the recently elected ECOWAS Chairman urged the youth against allowing themselves to be used by politicians.
"It is important for us to elect our leaders in peace”.
“We need to allow the voters to exercise their franchise freely since they need to do so from their own freewill” he said.
The ruling party has 11 out of the 12 parliamentary seats in the Bono Region.
