The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has called for the dismissal of Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu over claims that he is incompetent.
Executive Secretary for the group, Mensah Thompson, said a number of issues emanating from the outfit of the Special Prosecutor raise questions of incompetence on his part.
"In fact since 2018 we have not seen a single productive investigation done by the Office or a single productive prosecution done by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, then why do we still keep Mr Amidu in place," he said.
Martin Amidu was sworn into office as Special Prosecutor in February 2018 by President Akufo-Addo.
His appointment was to ensure independent and non-partisan investigations into corruption cases, as well as prosecute all persons found guilty of corruption in the country.
However, after two years of being in office, ASEPA says the Special Prosecutor has been dormant in the fight against corruption.
It added that, per the law that established the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Mr Amidu cannot be removed or changed, hence, the need for the President to come in and ensure his withdrawal.
"Because his stature is like a High Court judge, or an Appeal Court judge, the process of Article 146 can be invoked to commence impeachment proceedings against him, if the presidency feels that they need to get him out, and that is what we want," Mr Thompson said.
