The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has hinted at a possible penetration of the Volta secessionists into the Ashanti Region.
For this reason, he says measures such as heightened military and police presence are already in place to curb any such insurgence.
The Ashanti Regional Minister disclosed that it will be challenging to make out secessionists just by their appearance and race since there are numerous Voltarians living in the Ashanti Region.
"Since there are a lot of descendants from the Volta Region in the Ashanti Region, we have been on the lookout for possible secessionists, we call on all including Traditional leaders to help out with information," he said.
He told the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that the security agencies are firmly on the ground.
According to the Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa the people of the Volta Region are not in favour of the activities of the separatists.
“I think the majority of the people in the Volta Region, majority, if I say majority, 95-98% of the people don’t support what is going on. In fact, they are very much embarrassed by the activities of these people,” he said.
Mr Osei-Mensah urged the Chiefs in the various jurisdictions and all Ghanaians to be vigilant and cooperative in aiding in the fight against this crisis.
"If you see people in your area being given military training or anything that looks suspicious or any sort, please alert us," he said.
