Sometime back in late 2018, Kwame Nsiah-Apau also known as Okyeame Kwame sparked fashion controversy when he wore a half suit half kaftan top created by designer Joey aka @urtailorstailor.official on Instagram.
The artist nicknamed Rap Doctor, is a Ghanaian musician, songwriter, creative director, and entrepreneur, who in late 2018 decided to break the fashion norm as he attended to G Style Awards in Ghana. Many fashion critics slandered his look and outlined his awkward style and outfit.
However, the rap doctor maintains his calm as it was around the time where he took on a journey to be unique fashion-wise and push the concept of made-in-Ghana to the world.
Fast forward to today, his style was totally emulated by radio host and event presenter Resego Motlhokathari who rocked an identical version of the suit with alternative colors. The presenter took to the stage of the ‘Fashion Without Borders Africa’ event rocking a grey version merged with a green and yellow print, whilst Okyeame Kwame previously rocked the white edit with a yellow and grey print.
Resego Motlhokathari outfit was made by Bostwanaian designer Lesley Mmokele of @les_wears_xclusives. The outfit was not emulated with the consent of @urtailorstailor.official, and in today’s day and age, plagiarism has come to be a norm in African fashion. However, neither one of these entities/designers have the outfit out for sale on any platform so the issue of plagiarism might not be a dispute that we will see come to the industry.
Never, the less, see more images of the two below and let us know who rocked it best or which version your prefer.
