The North East Regional Coordinating Council has invited a proposal for the preparation of a structured plan for Nalerigu as the regional capital.
Regional Minister, Solomon Boar, who revealed this said, the proposed plan would amongst others earmarked sites for an industrial hub, education ridge, affordable housing sites and road bypasses.
These are part of measures in line with the operations of the Land Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) to ensure a smooth urban transition of the new regional capital.
The Minister speaking at the official inauguration of the North East Regional Coordinating Council pleaded with the traditional authorities and other stakeholders to support and ensure the successful implementation of the plan.
"We will work closely with the traditional authorities so that this plan will come to pass in order to implement it for the good of generations yet unborn, that is the focus of the Regional Coordinating Council and we will ensure that it comes to pass by the grace of the Almighty God", he emphasised.
The official inauguration of the region, created two years ago, had been delayed largely due to the absence of the Regional House of Chiefs.
The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Alimah Mahama who inaugurated the region, among other things, urged the new Council to prioritise the spatial organisation of the regional capital town.
"To get to a house is difficult because people are all over the place so we need to identify our roads and enforce it so that people do not build on the roads", she added.
