The Bono East Regional Health Directorate has taken its turn to vaccinate all health workers in the 11 Municipal and District Assemblies of the region.
The move, according to the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Fred Adomako Boateng forms part of measures taken to reduce the increasing number of Covid-19 cases amongst health workers.
The region has since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 recorded a total of 1,420 cumulative cases. Out of this figure, 474 are health workers representing 33.4% of the total case count.
At the launch of the exercise at the Abrafi Women and Children's hospital in Techiman, Bono East Regional Minister Kwesi Adu Gyan indicated that health workers play critical roles in caring for all.
He said their protection at work, home and in the community remains a national priority and for the fact that they are leading the fight against the virus in the region it was appropriate they take their jabs first.

In all, 9263 Health staff including the Tutors and students of Health Training Institutions across the region would receive the Covax Astrazeneca vaccines.

The Minister seized the opportunity to urge the Regional Health Directorate to take steps to alleviate the fear and concerns around the Vaccines and ensure that all eligible persons avail themselves for the vaccination because it works and it is effective.

He also urged the general public to continue observing the current public health safety protocols even when the vaccine is available until there is certification that the virus is defeated.

The Regional Director of Health Services Dr Fred Adomako Boateng assured the Minister and the people of the region of the directorate's readiness to administer the Vaccines to the people.

He queried that, if they, the health workers who are better placed in terms of the effects of the vaccine are taking it, then why should the public entertain uncertainties.
