Government is expanding facilities for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to increase enrolment across the country.
The Member of Parliament for Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti region, Philip Basoah, said government is investing ¢3.1million to improve TVET in the area.
He has urged constituents to take advantage of government’s intervention to acquire employable skills.
According to the MP for Kumawu, the government is committed to training and equipping the youth with employable skills, especially those who could not make it to the tertiary level.
Philip Basoah distributed training equipment to master-artisans in the Constituency to resource them. He told JoyNews many youths are willing to acquire employable skills but are challenged in affording the cost of acquiring equipment.
Mr. Basoah advised parents to take interest in training the children for a better Ghana.
He pledged to partner with the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NSSI) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to help TVET graduates in the constituency establish their businesses.
Some of the beneficiaries spoke to JoyNews express excitement.
"Today I have a sewing machine through the effort of Philip Basoah. I have been idling in the house for a very long time. I am very grateful," one of the beneficiaries, Yaa Boatemaa said.
Seamstresses who received the sewing machines pledged to train more people in the area.
"I am a seamstress so I got a sewing machine. I will use it to train my apprentices."
