A 25-year-old man, identified as Eric Kitcher, has allegedly set the apartment of a neighbour ablaze after an argument at Akplabanya in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region.
The culprit, alleged to be a drug addict, went to the house of one Ezekiel Kitcher, after a misunderstanding during a football match, with broken bottles and threatened to kill all occupants of the house.
According to an eyewitness, sensing danger, Ezekiel locked all his family members into a room and called one Philimon Kitcher to come to their rescue.
Mr Philimon Kitcher intervened as requested but had his house burnt in the process. "There was a misunderstanding between Eric and another brother after a football match. We intervened and warned the accused. After that, he asked me to call Fire Service Personnel because he is going to deal with me. Later, I realised my room was on fire and people were shouting Eric's name,” he said.
He said property damaged cannot be estimated immediately, but he has lost an undisclosed amount of money and personal belongings.
Fredrick Tetteh Labia, Assembly Member for Akplabanya Electoral Area, told the media that he organised the youth to chase the suspect and arrested him.
DSP George Aboagye, the District Police Commander confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
