The Information Ministry has ordered the district police command to carry out a thorough investigation into the Radio Ada attack and ensure that culprits are sanctioned in accordance with the law.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry condemned the illegitimate actions of the perpetrators noting that such acts are unacceptable in the country.
“There is no justification for a group of people to physically attack a radio station and its staff for comments made on air. If a party is aggrieved at media comments, there are legitimate and legal avenues for seeking redress.
“Attacks of this nature are, however, totally unacceptable and the perpetrators must be identified and action taken in accordance with the law,” parts of the statement read.

Highlighting other mediums to seek redress, the Ministry urged citizens to report their various grievances to the National Media Commission (NMC) for investigation instead of resorting to violent measures.
On Thursday, January 13, 2022, at about 11:30 am, thugs numbering about 10 attacked the premises of Radio Ada, a community radio station at Ada.
They destroyed equipment and furniture in some of the station’s offices and manhandled two staff members over the content aired on one of the station’s programmes- ‘Manor Munyu’.
Management of Radio Ada, 93.3 FM subsequently blamed the attack on their extensive coverage of matters relating to the Songor Lagoon project.
The radio station, in a press statement that presented facts of the incident, stated that one of the hoodlums revealed to them, that they were targeted for throwing light on recent developments on the Songor Lagoon.
Meanwhile, the Radio station has shut down following the attack to enable it to review and repair damage caused.
However, the Ministry noted that the sector Minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has in a telephone conversation solidarised with management and staff of the station.
“He also asked that the office of the Coordinated Mechanism on the Safety of Journalists at the National Media Commission take complementary action on the reported attack," the statement added.
