Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has presented a cheque for GHC20,000.00 to the Cape Coast Metro Education Directorate for the purchase of equipment to facilitate teaching and learning.
The MP said quality education delivery in the metropolis is a shared responsibility, hence his contribution.
He said helping to break the geographical and physical barriers in education, particularly, in deprived and hard-to-reach communities, must be the priority of all and called for strategic policies to achieve this target.
Mr. Hagan said there was no better investment than in education as it had the capability to transform the lives of the people, ensure quality manpower, and aid faster development.
He expressed worry over the huge number of schools in deplorable states in the area, which needed to be renovated to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
He noted that education was an area that transcends politics and should not be joked with, adding that, there was a dire need to invest in the future of the children in Cape Coast.
“We have a lot to do in our educational sector as a people and the time is now. Your contribution and my contribution would help change our educational fortunes,” he stated.
Cape Coast Metro Director of Education, Mrs Dorcas Asare, who received the cheque, expressed gratitude to the MP for the gesture, saying it was timely and will be of immense benefit to all.
She gave the assurance that the Directorate would work harder to improve on their academic work and called on stakeholders to get on board to achieve the set targets.
