The head coach for Asante Kotoko, Prosper Ogum Narteh has implored match officials to come to the aid of players from career-threatening tackles in the Ghana Premier League.
Players who tend to play a key role for their clubs in the top-flight have had to suffer some high-flying tackles from oppositions, which sometimes have a greater impact on the player with the culprit normally being given little or no stern punishment from the authorities.
The latest to have been seen in the league was an off the ball incident between Kotoko forward, Franck Mbella Etouga and Bechem United midfielder Samuel Osei Kuffour at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour park in the matchday 19 fixture between the two teams.
The Bechem United defender stamped on the Etouga second after clearing the ball out of his team's half on the pitch.
Quizzed on his reaction to the challenge, Nareth said, "Every single registered player for the Ghana league is a very important player.
“So career-threatening tackles that can send them off their profession, sometimes they may not come back.
“If they will come back, they will look too rusty, they may not be able to play the way they are playing.
“So it’s not only about them [Georges Mfegue and Franck Mbella] but every single player.
“Every single player is important so they [referees] need to look at that, in fact, they need to protect the players and I think, they have to do that.”
The score at the end of the day meant the Porcupine Warriors now find themselves eight at the top of the Ghana Premier League, with Aduana Stars coming in second.
