Founder and Leader of the All People's Congress (APC) party, Dr Hassan Ayariga, has stated that if elected President, he will prohibit foreigners from purchasing property in Ghana.
In a conversation with Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning on Monday, he stated that the country is losing everything to foreigners as the majority of well-established companies and other developed properties are owned by immigrants.
According to him, foreigners buy properties due to the cheapness of the prices attached to them, whereas citizens are struggling as they are unable to purchase such properties.
"In my 2020 campaign, I said that when I’m President, no foreigner can buy property in Ghana and I still stand by it," he said.
"Why do we think because we’re poor we must sell it? Sometimes I get sad because we’re selling them for peanuts, "he added.
In addition, the APC party 2020 flag bearer explained that three passports will be issued to full Ghanaian citizens to guarantee that these passport holders will become the only people to buy properties in the country.
"I’m going to issue three passports. One passport that a citizen will have is a full Ghanaian passport - mother Ghanaian, father Ghanaian, and those people are first-class Ghanaians. Those people are the only ones who can buy properties in this country. If you’re not a full Ghanaian, you cannot buy property," he stated.
Dr Hassan Ayariga indicated that Ghana is at risk of losing its properties completely to foreigners within the next 10 to 15 years, believing that the country is "joking", hence only rich Ghanaians would be able to purchase properties.
The APC 2024 flag bearer hopeful said Ghana remains poor because the resources are not being managed well.
He believes the leaders are failing to protect the properties in the country by allowing foreigners to have absolute control over the country’s industrious sectors.
Dr Hassan Ayariga urged government to initiate strategic plans to restore and stabilise the Ghana cedi rather than borrow from other countries.
