Martin Luther King Jr. and Hammony International School emerged champions in the boys and girls categories, respectively, in the maiden Indomie U-13 Football League on Friday at the Madina AstroTurf.
Martin Luther King Jr. defeated God’s Gift International School on penalties to win the boys final after a 2-2 draw in an entertaining game watched by hundreds of school children and parents.
In the girls final, Hammony International School went past Awopedec Social School to be crowned champions.
Organizers of the competition, Indomie Ghana, awarded Martin Luther King JR. and Hammony International School giant trophies and 10,000 Ghana Cedis for their victories.
The second-placed teams walked home with 7,000 Ghana cedis while the third-placed teams pocketed 5,000 Ghana cedis.
The best player, goalkeeper, defender, goal king, and fair play team in each category received 500 Ghana cedis respectively for their efforts.
Former Ghana international, Prince Tagoe, graced the closing ceremony and presented the prizes to the winning schools and outstanding individuals.
He urged the pupils to take their practice serious and also be focused when they are in the classroom.
Indomie Ghana says the U-13 Football League will be extended to other parts of the country in the coming year.
