The National Youth Organiser elect of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed shock over the margin by which he won the just-ended election.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday, Mr George Opare Addo said he expected a landslide victory.
“To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised about the gap, because I was expecting a landslide. But on election day, a lot of machinations happened,” he said.
Mr Opare Addo’s comments are in response to a question posed by the host as to why the gap between him and his contender, Brogya Genfi was close.
Explaining what contributed to the close gap, he said it was due to the delegates being pressured on the day of voting.
He also claimed that his campaigners were threatened.
“A lot of surrogates were sent out by the big wigs to come and do.. people were being frightened with calls so they brought pressure on the delegates,” he said.
He noted that his opponents were also propagating lies about the source of funding for his campaign, with some claiming that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) funded it.
The incumbent National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, retained his position after a keenly contested election in Cape Coast on Saturday.
Pablo, as he is affectionately called, beat his sole contender, Yaw Brogya Genfi by obtaining 533 votes.
Brogya Genfi, who was the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser, failed to annex the portfolio, after amassing a total of 508 votes of the valid votes cast.
Pablo’s win marks his second successive victory over Brogya Genfi, after beating him in the 2018 contest.
