The initiative is also aimed at whipping up the interest of residents in waste segregation, promoting wealth, and reducing environmental pollution.
According to the Oti Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Emmanuel Amemakalor, transfer stations would be set up in all districts across the country to purchase segregated waste which would be recycled into finished products.
He was speaking to journalists on the sideline of the commissioning of an Integrated Composting and Recycling Plant, in Dambai in the Oti Region.
He added that the initiative would impact the local economy as residents would be paid for waste sent to the transfer stations for onward transporting to the plant sites.
“I am personally excited about this facility because of two important reasons. One of these is the 'trash for cash'. This is going to enhance businesses when it comes to the collection of waste where people will find interest in selecting recyclable materials and selling them to this facility.
And the second thing is the importance that it is going to place on refuse. Individuals are going to have bins to store their refuse and transport them here. We know how the region stretches, we have plans to have transfer stations in all the districts and if we are able to harness the refuse from the homes of people, we can feed this plant every day with more than 400 tons [of solid waste] to be able to supply the required quantity of compost needed. ” he said
The Chief Investment Officer of Jospong Group of Companies, Noah Gyemah, announced that his outfit aims at ensuring that every single waste material brought to the plants is recycled into a valuable product.
He explained that the machinery would soon be made available to covnert every single solid waste that enters the premises of the recycling plant.
The Composting and Recycling Plant is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, designed to segregate solid waste and recycle organic waste into compost.
It can process over 400 tons of solid waste daily, which includes rubber, plastic, electronic waste, and cans among others.
The facility which would operate under the subsidiary Integrated Recycling & Compost Ltd, is expected to generate about 1000 jobs, while ensuring a healthy environment, improved health, and living conditions, and reduce air and water pollution.
