Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus commenced his 2023/24 season in the perfect way possible in Ajax's win over Heracles Almelo on Saturday night.
Ajax came from a goal down to record a 4-1 victory at home with Kudus playing a major role in the thrilling fixture.
The 23-year-old scored a goal and won a penalty late in the game to ensure his side picked all points available in their first game of the new Dutch Eredivisie season.
The away team took the lead in additional time in the first half but Ajax levelled things almost immediately before heading into the break.
Ajax looked the better option after the recess and created a handful of chances that they failed to utilise.
However, Kudus was on hand to shoot Maurice Steijn in the lead after the 75th minute, beating an opposition player with his first touch before bending the ball past the goalkeeper.
Steven Bergwijn scored the third goal of the evening before he completed his brace from the penalty spot after Kudus was brought down in the 18-yard box.
It's the start that Kudus wanted to the season after several reports of a move away from the Dutch side with Brighton and Hove Albion waiting on the player to make a decision.
